Moonitor

Why Moonitor is free

And why we don’t offer direct support. The short version: it’s the only honest way we can keep this free.

Good uptime monitoring shouldn’t be a luxury. A solo developer’s side project deserves to know it’s down just as much as a funded startup does. So we built Moonitor to be free — not free-with-an-asterisk, not free-until-you-grow. Just free.

Here’s the catch, stated plainly: we do not provide direct, one-to-one support.Support is the single most expensive part of running software. Doing it well means hiring people, and paying people means charging you. The moment we promise individual support on a free product, we’d either have to start charging, fill the app with ads, sell your data, or quietly let quality slide. We don’t want to do any of those things.

What we do

  • • Actively maintain and improve Moonitor
  • • Keep the lights on and the checks running
  • • Write clear, thorough documentation
  • • Fix real bugs and ship in the open

How we communicate

  • • Openly, publicly, on X
  • • Status & incident updates for the platform itself
  • • Changelogs and docs over inboxes
  • • Honesty over hand-holding

We think this trade is fair, and we’d rather tell you about it up front than surprise you later. If you need contractual SLAs, a dedicated account manager, or someone to call at 3am, a paid product is the right choice — and we’ll happily point you to one. If you want genuinely good monitoring for free and can live without a support queue, welcome aboard.

Moonitor is built and maintained by The Cool Software Company, a small studio shipping a network of focused, useful tools.
